What teacher/coach had the biggest impact on your life? What was it? and when did you realize it?
For me it was Mr. Booker (math). I had Mr. Booker for 3 different classes over 3 years. His first impression was one of a "no-nonsense" kind of man. I remember clowning around a bit in one of the first class sessions with him. He asked me into the hall, slammed me into the lockers, and explained to me "just who's classroom it was! --in no uncertain terms, he set me on the right path, at least when it came to 4th hour. I did not really care for Mathematics. I found it somewhat difficult, highly predictable, and wondered if I would ever use any of what I was learning later in life. Man did the things Mr. Booker teach me play a huge part in my life. I was surrounded by math problems from all directions, from Geometric issues, to Algebraic formulas for business and finance matters, profits and loss, and so many more.
I later ran into "Bob" as an adult while walking in a park. I thought that I recognized him and upon introductions, I confirmed it. We talked a short while, reminiscing a bit, just prior to leaving, I thanked him for all that he taught me and how it had helped to promote me through my career. He kindly said,"you are very welcome......Oh,....and I am sorry about the locker thing. I just wanted to set the tone with the entire class, and you gave me just the opportunity that I was in need of.........." He then smiled and winked, and went about his way. A fine man indeed. A scholar and a gentleman. Thanks Bob!
